Last year we had a big idea.

We wanted to learn, collaborate, and tell the story of the agriculture sector and what the future could look like. We didn’t just want to tell the story, but discover it at the grassroots level. We wanted to tell the story from our farmers’ perspective.

It’s important because right now, the agriculture sector is at an intersection. Changing economics, mindsets, emerging technology, and perhaps the biggest shift of all: A nationwide change in farm ownership. New Zealand agriculture is in the midst of the largest-ever intergenerational wealth transfer.

Within the next ten years alone, almost 20,000 farm owners, which is about half of New Zealand's total, will reach the retirement age of 65. This will force, one way or another, over $150 billion in New Zealand rural assets to change hands. How will today’s young farmers face these changes, challenges and opportunities?

Growing Tomorrow is a documentary that set out to help discover that answer.
